KEI Resident Clinics

Residents spend time in the Kresge Eye Institute Resident Clinic each year, with two dedicated clinic rotations in PGY2 and PGY4. In PGY2 Residents have 2 Clinic Rotations dedicated to seeing “Walk In Emergencies”. These patients can range from a minor corneal abrasion to vision threatening diagnosis such as retinal detachment and endophthalmitis.

Kresge Eye Institute is proud to provide care to an expansive patient population, including the underserved. The patient pathology seen in the residency clinic is expansive and provides an educational experience unlike any other available in the state of Michigan.

Resident Clinic is staffed by faculty of all subspecialties, with a dedicated full time faculty member, Dr. Landolt, running the show. While patients are always staffed by faculty, the residents are building relationships with patients as their treating physicians. Residents have continuity of care clinics, so they will be seeing the same patients over all years of residency. This provides a unique experience for residents to learn aspects of having their own practice, while having support and supervision present.

PGY4 Residents will have their own schedules and run their own “mini clinics” staffed by ophthalmology faculty. Residents will complete in clinic procedures, board surgeries, and provide care to patients that they have seen throughout their training. Senior residents also have opportunities as a mentor in the clinic to the junior residents.
