“Adventures of a Pediatric Ophthalmologist”
Dr. de Faber is head of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Rotterdam Eye Hospital and President of the European Society of Ophthalmology (SOE)
Dr. Jan-Tjeerd de Faber completed psychology studies and medical school in Nijmegan and Rotterdam. Prior to his residency in ophthalmology at the Rotterdam Eye Hospital he did a visual sciences post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Texas in Houston. Following residency, he returned to Houston for a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus with Dr. Gunter von Noorden at the Baylor College of Medicine.
He has been head of the Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Department at the Rotterdam Eye Hospital since 1991 and Chair of the Medical Staff from 2009 to 2013.
Dr. de Faber is past president of the Donders Society for Strabismology, has served as Vice President and editor of the transactions of the European Strabismological Society, editor of the International Strabismological Society, and president of the Dutch Ophthalmology Society.
He is currently president of the European Society of Ophthalmology and is the International Member of the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
He has served as a consultant to the Rotterdam Zoo Blijdorp since 1991.
